Members of the Mattawa Fire Department completed their annual RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) Operations Training over the past two weeks.
This week, Crews completed 18 different skillsets (16 NFPA 1407 RIT Skills, 1 NFPA 1001-FF1 Skills, and 1 MFD Skillsets). These skillsets included Mayday Operations, RIT SCBA conversions, one and two-firefighter drags and carries, moving a downed firefighter up and down stairs, and downed firefighter CPR.
Rescuing downed firefighters is one of the hardest things any fire department has to do. Training such as this ensures that if anything does happen to one or more of our firefighter’s that we are able to quickly and effectively effect a rescue of one of our own.
Next week Nipissing EMS will be attending a joint training with us over at the Mike Rodden Arena for a culminating RIT scenario. Stay tuned for details and photos of that exciting training session.
