MFD Training — Blind Emergency Response Scenario

The Mattawa Fire Department completed a blind emergency response scenario at the Mike Rodden Arena.

The call was dispatched for an ammonia leak in the area’s ice plant with a missing worker. Crews arrived and conducted size up. Crews identified the leaking  product as well as located the downed worker. The worker was identified being a viable victim. After making contact with external resources, an emergency rescue for the viable victim was selected as the appropriate course of action and the rescue was undertaken. Emergency decontamination measures were in place and the victim as well as the down range firefighters were emergency decontaminated.

The crews conducted the simulated call right up to where a provincial Level 2 Hazmat Team would be required. This type of training ensures that our firefighters are ready for any type of call.
