Carbon Monoxide Alarm By-Law
After a tragedy to a Woodbridge family of four who died in their sleep due to carbon monoxide poisoning, Mattawa town council recommended that the Town of Mattawa draft a By-Law requiring the installation of carbon monoxide alarms in residential buildings in order to reduce the health risks to our citizens.
In 2011, the town of Mattawa passed By-Law 10-29 which is a carbon monoxide alarm By-Law, requiring the installation and maintenance of carbon monoxide alarms in all residential occupancies containing fuel fired appliances and/or having attached garage(s).
In 2013, the Hawkins Gignac Act (Carbon Monoxide Safety) was passed by the Ontario government which was an act to amend the Fire Protection and Prevention Act, 1997 to provide safety requirements related to the presence of unsafe levels of carbon monoxide on premises.
