Sky Lanterns should not be launched during a FIRE BAN!

A sky lantern is a small hot air balloon made of paper, with an opening at the bottom where a small fire is suspended. A sky lantern may land when the flame is still alight, making it a fire hazard. It may also catch fire while still in the air and although the paper will burn quickly the flame source may remain lit until it hits the ground.

The Mattawa Fire Department would like to emphasize that this is an OPEN FLAME and as such sky lanterns should ABSOLUTELY NOT be launched while a FIRE BAN is in effect!

Your cooperation would be appreciated.
Let’s jointly protect our community and surrounding areas from fires!
