CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS FOR COVID–19 ASSESSMENT CENTRE IN MATTAWA

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS

COVID–19 ASSESSMENT CENTRE IN MATTAWA

from Interim Fire Chief: Paul Lafreniere, [email protected]
Deputy Chief: Paul Dupras

We have been working to prepare a facility to use as a COVID–19 Assessment Centre, and the Health Team has chosen the Mike Rodden Arena for a number of reasons. We are also working on a back-up site. The purpose of this Assessment Center is to take the overload off the hospitals and doctor’s offices if a pandemic center becomes necessary.

The number of volunteers that would be required at a time of operation would be around four (4) to five (5).   The time the center would operate would be around four (4) to six (6) hours per day.  The center may be required to operate up to forty-five (45) days, depending on the outbreak in this area.  This Assessment Center will be serving the Nipissing Area.

Here are some of the roles that volunteers would be asked to do:

  • Assisting in registration
  • Information guide to direct people to the correct area
  • Refreshments for workers
  • Directing traffic in the parking lot

We need all of you to have a Face Fit Test.  This is a 10 minute test of your face to make sure that the mask that you will be required to wear is the proper one for your face.  What I would do is arrange a company to come to Mattawa and have you as a group to meet with them to be tested.  We will be coordinating dates with the town of Mattawa, the testing company and volunteers.

When you are working you will be wearing full protection, gloves, gowns, and mask.  Each of you will be required to watch a video from the health people; this is part of your training.

We all hope that it does not come to this, but we must be prepared.

I hope that this has helped to inform you of your role in this operation.

We would like to thank you for volunteering to help us operate this Assessment Centre.  We would like to meet with you to go over what your role would be, if needed.
